22nd of June - World Geonauts' Day
A Geonaut is a Voyager of the Earth (from the ancient Greek geo-, the Earth, and -naut, the navigator). Someone who commits to respect our planet and not to conquer or to exploit her, and to actively help the Earth and her inhabitants to evolve toward greater harmony.
The 22nd of June (06-22) has been chosen as the date of World Geonauts’ Day, in remembrance of Galileo. It was on the 22nd of June 1633, after having renounced his scientific convictions, and in particular the concept of the Earth’s turning, that Galileo has reputedly whispered “Nevertheless it turns…”.
The 22nd of June of each year, we celebrate World Geonauts’ Day, in particular by addressing a letter to the Secretary General of the United Nations containing some hopes proposed by each of us for the planet Earth, and for ourselves as Earthlings.
